    Second Pieces

In my collection I have an RK (plus documentation) awarded to Joachim Barth, and thought that the following letter copy might be of interest to forum members....its concerning a replacement (or second example) of his DKiG. We have all heard of recipients obtaining these...but here is some nice supportive information to bring it all to life a bit.

You will note the signature is Dr. Doehle.......

I wonder what 15 RM would be in todays money ?

Chris, 2 questions if I may.
    1. Am I right in saying that there is no way of telling if a DKiG or DKiS is a replacement?
    2. All cloth DK are private purchases.
    Thanks,
    AB.

      Andrew,

there is no way of telling, same manufacturers

Replacement for the gold cloth version could be obtained via official request to the OKH/PA/P5 Staffel 1 as of October 1944.

Also, as of November 1944, no silver cloth version was authorized. I think this stayed tile the wars end. There are, however, genuine silver examples.

          Allan,

it basically says that they have received the request for a 2nd piece and that this piece is enclosed and the recipient should send RM 15 to the account mentioned.

            Thanks Dietrich.
The reason I ask is because I have a DKiG, mm20 that you might find very interesting.
This DKiG is engraved on the back with the recipients name, rank,
unit and the date of the award. It looks to me, to be a period engraving and nicely done. But, whats even more interesting is the case. I'm aware that there were 2 different size issue cases but this one is very unusual. Its not in the best condition but still good. I've tested it with a UV light and no glow anywhere.
Could it be that this DKiG and its unusual case be a private purchase or replacement???
Of course you need to see photos but its the middle of the night here so in the morning I will get some pics together and this time tomorrow I will post them.
Look forward to your opinion, and anyone else, tomorrow.
            Thanks.
            Regards,
            AB.
P.S. I understood what you said the first time. Cheers.

A replacement is for sure possible. I'm lucky enough to have the paperwork between people requesting replacements and the PKZ. I might be able to find the name. However, I do not know whether the documents are complete.

I would discount a private purchase.
