I finally had to break up my EK collection into seperate cases, one for the 39's and one for the 14's. It worked out ok because the crosses stand out a bit more now individually. The 39's case looks a little bare but there's room for growth. Needs another 4 1st class to go across the top. Too bad that's about $1000 to do.

Here's the 14's. This case looks a little more complete because of the numbers. I was also able to add in my 2 place medal bar again, which doesn't look out of place and a 3 place stickpin which looks ok too I think. Should the EK with the spange be in with the 39's or the Imperial case it's in? What does everyone think?

          Hi Steve,

I'm sorry, but your Spange is regarded as fake.
They comne with several different marks, or unmarked.

I have got one myself as well, and there are many, many more floating around....

          Sorry...

          Regards,
          Ben

Really? I bought it here on the estand earlier in the summer. I'm not sure from who though, but I will be looking into it. The seller said he recieved it from a german dealer, and I believe was in Florida. First item I've posted that hasn't been good. This is very disappointing. Thanks for letting me know. What makes it fake? The material looked like tombak so I thought it might have a chance. Not good. These spanges are heavily faked by the looks of things.

              Hi Steve,

The gap between the left wing and the eagle's head is to big.
Do a forum-search on L/16 Spange and I think you will find one.

There are people that still believe in this clasp, but the majority doesn't.

As I said, they come with several markings and unmarked.
It is well made and it fooled me to, but I'm convinced it's not good.

The pop up on online auctions and on dealers-sites pretty often....

              Best regards,
              Ben

Just checked my Pay Pal records and I think I know who sold be this piece. Anymore information or verification before I contact him would be much appreciated. I know it's been a few months but if a piece is deemed fake I think the seller should make good on it, at least on this forum. We'll see. Any other opinions or comments would be good here before I proceed.

                  Steve,

Here's a badge that has been circulating recently. Notice the finish, the attention to fine detail, the polishing down to reveal the brass core? It's perhaps by the same firm as your spange. It certainly is finished much like your spange.

                    Hi Steve,
I agree with the other guys on your spange, I think there was one being discussed recently? Anyway, your other question was about which case to display the EK and (when you get a replacement?) spange in. My preference would be to display the EK with the spange in the '39 case as the spange is an EK decoration that was awarded from '39. However, if you wanted to keep all '14 crosses in one place and not have mixed cross cases then you should keep them all together. Hopefully your decision will be easier now because you can get a replacement spange on a ribbon for your '39 case and keep the '14 EK in with the others!
