    S&L Cross Paint

Why not look at the paint compounds on S&L crosses from EKII's to RK's and compare the paints? Just as the RK die showed wear and tear, so too should the EKI and II dies. Try to come up with a timeline of paints and compare the compounds, maybe, maybe there's a progression or evolution of the paint and comparable across cross grades. Maybe.

Interesting task that could be done , ...but the results would not say much without a data base of alot of awarded crosses and their documents ... to determine paint changes and the die wear , well S&L made alot of crosses and used a few dies , .. therin the chalange ! Depending how many dies were used , each will have a very close wear appearance during their use. that means a 41 made cross and lets say a 43 made cross may appear to have come from the same die due to die wear , even though they did not ! Paint may have only changed 2 or 3 times over the entire production and may be to broad by itself !
