The core reminds me about Souval pieces with the flat swastika and the dipping "3" in 1939. The surface is very rough on the reverse plate. It is certanly not a L/52 C.F. Zimmermann Pforzheim.

My opinion is that you should look for another one if it is a undisputed Zimmermann you want.

Indeed. The fluted marks on the hinge is one of the things that collectors like to see in a Zimmermann/Godet. Look again though. On genuine pieces these fluted marks are placed all the way around the hinge. On your piece there is only one or two of them.

There are other things to look for. Zimmermann/Godet crosses often have a very narrow outer flange compared to other makers. On your piece the outer flanges are wider and as found on other makers but Zimmermann/Godet.

Not wider than others. More narrow than others. Below is the L/52 Zimmermann that was linked to and is typical for genuine Zimmermann/Godet crosses.

Could you post a few really good photos of the sides of the cross. I like to see the soldering of the frame and plate.

It is not about being 3 piece. I can see it is a 3 piece cross. I wonder if it has been tampered with. Keep in mind that Zimmermann/Godet crosses are of excellent quality.

I am sure of that your cross is not an all through genuine L/52 Zimmermann. I think it might be a put together from ground dug pieces. One can find ground dug crosses at Ebay ever now and then. The rough reverse plate makes me think so. Even the needle has a rough surface.

The core could easy be from any other cross. Fake core, Souval core pre/post 45... In any case, not a good L/52 cross.
