But the real question IS .... the EK1 .. is it pre-1945?

I'm amazed no one has said one thing about THAT?

From the pics provided, I'd say it's at least repainted and cleaned.

But the pics aren't the best, others/more would help.

Hello Stomper, I think this is not an original. I do not like the hinge shape and the top of the pin. I may be wrong, but I would not buy this cross for my collection as compared to the known originals I have seen and the one I own. There are variations, but I would be very careful with this maker, S&L. Is the core magnetic?

Here is a shot of the reverse of my example. Remember, it is only one example.

                Dear friends,

please only give an opinion about orginality if you are 100% sure. If not people might be lead into confusion and original items will in many cases be declared as post 1945 productions.

In this case i can say for 100% that Stomper's cross has all characteristics of a genuine pre 1945 S&L cross. However, many believe that this firm produces WW2 medals, badges and ordes also after 1945 and noone can realy say if they were made from the same tools or not.
Since no one can prove that this cross is a fake (because it still is a 100% S&L product), i would declare it as pre 1945 in all parts.

                Regards,

                Stefan

Thanks for all the replies guys . After selling my one and before having it returned i bought another one only because it was at an unbelievable price , not because i regreted selling my one. After now holding the 2 together i can safely say it has been repainted.
As far as the pin and catch go the pins are different but the catches are the same.
There is also a definate die flaw on the 9 o`clock upright arm which is there on both pieces . Almost identical in that respect.
All comments have been taken on board and again thanks for all your comments...
