Infantry grouping with '86' EKII w/packet

    Hi,

I just received this grouping from a fellow forum member. I started out buying an unmarked '86' EKII in it's original Paulmann & Crone, Ludensheid packet. One thing led to another, and before long I had bought the entire grouping that he had just picked up from a Infantry vet. It included the Cross, the packet, the Wehrpass booklet, a US discharge/separation document, an IAB and an Ost Front Medal. I just had to show off the cross here, knowing it wasn't something we come across every day. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoy the grouping. I'll post the entire grouping when I get it framed.

Is it true that every '86' EKII is unmarked? I have read this on the forum archives.

The IAB looks to be a silver version. In the wehrpass booklet it just gives reference to a IAB, not whether it was silber or brnz. I can see traces of silver on the obverse and reverse, especially around the catch.

                      ek2 mm 86

I Had received an Iron Cross 2nd Class marked 86 from Detlev only to find out It was a 98 instead. This was a clear case of mistaken identity, howerver I also received an Iron cross un-marked in a bag marked Walter Henlein mm #109. Is it possible some makers, just didn't mark there crosses?
If so how many can we identify. Good Question How Many Makers Didn't Mark their Cross's. This could be part of the missing link to the famous maker list.
Need to start a new thread.

                        Rick,

I see today the collectors guild:

                        http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H058856.html

...what may be another unmarked '86'. All looks right except the very undersized ring. My cross has a smaller than usual ring, but this example on the link is really small. But it looks like the same cross, or very close to it. The impulse to buy it was strong, but I already have one.

I also have a packet for a '109', and am looking high and low for a cross for it. To answer your question regarding how many makers never marked their crosses, I could not say. But when I found this vet-aquired cross and packet I felt very confident that I indeed have a match.

                        Robert

                          ek2 un-marked

I think that there are a nunber of manufacturers that just didn't mark their cross's, How about you ? They can't be that rare that all makers haven't surfaced yet. Your thoughts!
