Urgent Help Please on EK2 MM '16'

    Hello

I have recently received this EK2 maker marked '16' for Alios Rettenmaier. The cross has a magnetic core and is of three piece construction.

However, I'm not convinced that this is a genuine '16' EK2. I feel that the ring stamp may have been added at a later date. All the '16' marked EK2's that I can find anywhere have a stamp and not an incuse mark. In turn that leads me then to doubt the authenticity of the whole piece - although I can't find any fakes that seem to match this one.

Can anyone help with this, as if it isn't a real '16', (regardless of whether the EK itself is a genuine piece), I will return it to the dealer I bought it from, but I need to know very quickly so I can return it within the inspection period.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Regards
    David

Er, we the number looks like '76' to me.

        Are you sure it's '16'?

          Hello

It was advertised by the dealer as maker '16'. I thought it was just a bad stamping. Under a 20x loop it may be a '76' - which of course would confirm my doubts that it's not a '16' !!

I'm going to take a real close look at it, and also, if I can find any, compare it to other '76'. If it is a '76' I'll be happy as I don't have an Ernst L Muller in my collection, and their marks are incuse, as this is.

          Thanks for that.

          Regards
          David

dealers as well have some trouble with maker marks.
I have seen souval 98 crosses advertised as 68, 66 etc.

To me it reads 76 as well, they are marked in incuse relief as well.

            Regards,
            Ben

              Hello

Many thanks for that. It seems it is a '76', which is good as I don't have a '76' in my collection. Sorry, that should read I didn't have a '76' but it now appears that I do.

I have found a couple of '76' marked crosses on the forum and this one looks like a match for those.

It would appear that it's not just the dealers who have trouble with the ring stamps !! Perhaps I need new glasses, or to stop drinking beer on Friday nights. At least I was correct in saying it wasn't a '16'

              Regards
              David

It happend to me a lot of times before that I recieved another cross then expected because they didn't read the mark correct.

But take a look at my 2 mm76's.
Notice the 2 different maker marks.
And that the frames are both sloppy soldered and not nicely aligned.

                Regards,
                Luud

                      Hello

Many thanks for the photos Luud. Mine is a perfect match to the one to the right hand side in your photo. Yes, I have a '76'. At least I wasn't going daft when I said it didn't match up to any '16' !!

Another one off the list of manufacturers that I have to get, even if it wasn't the one I was expecting.

                      Regards
                      David

I have two "76" EK 2s -- one of which was sold to me as a "70."

                          Same here, I received 3 "75" before I got a "76"
