War merit cross terrible finish opinion

    Hi everybody,

I know it´s a common medal, and I have a lot of them in my collection. I´ve seen them many times, but I´ve never noticed before, if I remember, to have seen such a terrible finish in a III Reich medal, no matter the importance of the award.

Take a look at the back, the sword edge and the grips, yes, both of them. There´s a piece of uncut metal attached to the grips.

Is this medal an unfinished one, or a late war example, or even a fake? I don´t really know what to think. Never seen such a bad quality in these medals.

Anyone else has any idea about this piece?

    Thanks in advance,
    Adolph.

      Hi adolph,

      Cross itself is authentic IMO.
Never really studied them, but details are very crisp.
This looks like sloppy hand-finishing, probably done on monday morning

      Best regards,
      Ben

        Thanks Ben,

I´ve been looking for this cross around and I still haven´t found such a bad finish. I guess as you said it was "probably done on monday morning", very early.

        Regards,
        Adolph.

Yeah, looks like some sabotage to the war effort

Is there any makermark on the cross?

            No maker mark at all.
How, do you really think someone is going to leave their name there? What a reputation for the maker

I think maybe it was made the last day of the war, in the last minute!!!

            Regards,
            Adolph.
