I think the original was destroyed. I think Goering had replacement pieces and this is what he wore when he surrendered. I have no idea where they are . Maybe in Hermann Historika auctions?

I dont know which one, but one in berlin.

"The original Grand Cross that was presented to Göring (personally by Adolf Hitler) was destroyed during an air raid on his Berlin home. Göring had extra copies made, one of them with a platinum frame which he was wearing at the time of his surrender to the allies in 1945."

The formal document of the Grandcross of HG along with a grandcross etc., one of his uniforms are in the collection of W&H in the USA!!!! At the Max show the public got the chance to see it and take pics of it!!!! I can only say that the formal document in its cover was of amazing craftmanship!!!
His wedding sword is also in the USA I believe!!!!!

                sincerely

Here's a picture of the set. I had the good fortune (Thanks to Neil H.) to take good scans and measurements of the Grand Cross.

I would also not be surprised if some of his things are not at West Point. I am told there is a HUGE collection of German Militaria stored in the bowels of the Point.

If i remember right, when the the document was offered by Hermann Historica many years back it had no cross with it - so it would be interesting to know with which provenance the cross came......

The cross is not his cross and is not claimed to be his. It's one of the several crosses that were made for the PKZ, museums and stores. It's marked L/12.

@Suber: When I was at West Point and we asked about that they didn't have anything (other than the baton). I have no reason to doubt that at all since they brought out everything else of interest we asked.

                            Dietrich ,
                            That is a picture .WOW
                            Many thanks for sharing .
                            So that is a Grosskreuz.
The case is that full of diamonds , also the swastika full off diamonds ?
I already know that West Point has some Stuf .
Discussed here DKIG with diamonds , the only Stern zum Grosskreuz ,
Ehrenzeichen für Deutsche Volkspflege With diamonds . Many uniforms from high leaders from the 3R RIBBENTROP, an now this . The case and medal .
Is there any chance that outsiders can see this ( collection ) .
Because I believe these beauty's are just in a store box to rot
Bring them out , sell them to collectors who will place them in a collection.
                            Cheers

The document case is covered with Luftwaffe blue maroquin leather, inside with ivory velvet. The decor is made of hand-finished gold. The stones are gold topaz and brilliants. It's a piece of art!
