I'm leaving town today, so I'll miss this, but I saw this one this morning. I'll leave with a general statement of 'a fool and his money will soon part'. Have fun talking about this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And a worn ribbon which would indicate that this cross was awarded and worn by somebody. This would put the 800-4 squarely in front of the 935-4, based on what is known so far and today.

Based on what I could tell so far by looking at (2) 800-4 in detail and in person I personally will not believe that the 800-4 was struck before the 935-4.

Well, I have dug in and strapped on my flak helmet. Here is an 800 4 Knight's Cross that was a direct purchase from the veteran in Chicago. The vet came into my motel buy and he walked away from my offer. I was not buying firearms and he wanted to sell everything. My friend, the late Bill Mohr, bought everything (he was a licensed gun dealer) and sold me the Knight's Cross (and other common items) a week later, for what I had offered the vet. It has only been in the vet's, Bill Mohr's and my ownership for many decades.

Note the painted frosting and the appearance of the dent row, on the 3'oclock arm. I have photographed the reverse 3 o:clock arm because the dent row is more clearly defined.

I am not arguing the time line, but this was a 1945 bringback and not switeched or played with. The cross is in a the late Steinhauer case with ribbon and is in unissued condition. No matter what, it is still one of my favorite Knight's Crosses.

        Have at it, fellows!

            Now that's better...

Can you post a clear detail shot of the dent row?

Gorgeous cross Bob! Very interesting background. I can see why it would be one of your favorites.

It's a good one Bob with a great background, just as you and I like them: right out of the motel buy from a known source. I'm a believer!

                    800/4

I too am a believer. You cant see consistent dents from front too back, much less cross too crorss. I have seen 65 marked crosses attributed as awarded as early as late 1942. If they were using their 65 stamp why could not S@L use their "4" before the arbitarary assumption of mid 1944 as the beggining of PZK numbers..........Jimmy.... PS Absolute Beauty their Bob

Is this conclusion due to the definition of the dent row, Dietrich ?

Yes, a very clear reduction in definition compared to the 935-4.
