    A little story to tell

    Hello

My daughter has been dating a rather nice young man for about 3 years.
In this time I have never met his parents.

A couple of days ago my daughter's boyfriend's father called in to visit for the first time and of course I showed him my photo collection which he was very interested in.

He said he would be back with something that I might like to see.

Today he arrived with a EK 2 with ribbon and a cased EK 1 for me to look at.
These had been given to him as a present by a former employer.

I have hurredly scanned them as he couldn't stay long.

The photos don't do justice to the medals but I would like all you experts to
comment on them and tell me whether the medals are genuine. Also could someone give an approximate value for the two medals.

The pin on the EK 1 is stamped "20" and the EK 2 has no stamps on the ring.

First set showing the EK 1 and case.

    Cheers

    Larry

                    Hello

The EK1 is a text book example of an EK1 by C F Zimmerman, Pforzheim. The case also looks good. Price wise, here in the UK, depending on if it was a private sale or from a dealer, I would expect to pay anything from £200GBP to £280GBP.

The EK2 looks ok as well. Price wise, again depending on if it was a private sale or from a dealer, around £50GBP to £70GBP.

The Zimmerman is a mint example, and a very nice one.

                    Regards
                    David

The core of the EK2 seems to be repainted, or is a casted fake from my guess.

                        Hi Tang

I don't believe that the core of the EK 2 has been repainted. I had to brighten the scans to show details which may give that impression.

                        Cheers

                          Hello

I know what you mean, especially the 'blurred' look to this EK2. I deliberated for some time over this, but somewhere in the back of my mind I am certain that I have seen another cross like this one which looked 'blurred' and was the subject of a lot of debate on one of the forums, but eventually deemed good - partly hence my opinion, and I still feel it is a good one.

However, it would help if we knew if it was a magnetic core and three of piece construction - or not as the case may be.

                          Regards
                          David

                            Hi David

Thankyou for your opinion. I can say that it is definitately of three piece construction. I didn't have time to photograph the edge of the medal but as I have owned and handled EK2's before I think it is a good one.

I will ask the owner to do a magnetic core test.

As I originately stated I did a quick scan of the medals as the owner had to leave on other business.

                            Cheers

                              Hello David,

that's exactly what I am concerning about, especially from the areas of the EK2 as shown in my attachment, because I don't see any of that effect from the EK1 scans, and secondly, if there is no paint in those areas, it wouldn't reflect the light back to the scanner.

                              To Larry,

Hello, I could be wrong in this case, and David have made a good point of the effect shown on the EK2 scans, so it would be wonderful if you could ask the owner of these medals for more informations, and stay tuned for more opinions from the experts in fourm.
