EK2 marked Wernstein, help

Here is what I believe a quite rare cross.
Now to the questions, is it a 5?
Below the number, an E is stamped, whats that?

hi there, I dont think its an E stamped there, it is a number, looks like 98 or 96 of something

Agree. It is 98 for Souval.

Yep, it's a "98" all right. (But actually that does make it kind of rare because Souval EK 2s are seldom marked.)

yes i saw the characteristics for Souval(the corners), but I could never for my life get the E to 98.

How about the "S" or "5", whats that?

If you mean the mark above the 98 mm?
IMO that is another 98 mark.

so its doublemarked? Even with wilder fantasy I cant get that to 98 either.

Peter, Perfect now I see the 98 clearly. Sometimes one is blind.
But the thing to the left of 98 cant be 98 also right? So the mystery remains, or am I still blinded?
