[quote=Sal Williams;1588215]Yeah I agree Don but I started this thread based on what I saw recently not what I saw after the thread see what I mean?

Dion, I think it is real too by the "feel" of it, but you have to admit its odd that so many came up lately and the quality seems so below TR standards! I just don't know. I don't want to start a panic, it really is not such a big deal but I had a thought. If anyone had an EK1 "55" and the frame looked the same, then one could look at the reverse set up and see if it matched other badges by that maker. This would be a good indication of it being good.
I know this is just an EK2 but what the hell i think it is good to know and do detective work on all pieces. Just good for the hobby don't ya think?

            Best, Sal

            Sal, My Sampson.

What do you mean a influx of these?? A couple people showed them on a thread in the crosses section of the WAF. I have only seen the one I have at the moment here in Germany. The odds with numbers is always strange, I was posting an EK1 cased 4 the other day with a n EK2 which MM I could nt make out. Both crosses from different parts of Germany. Both turn out to be a 4, and it was also 4 oclock, and it was my 4th PM that bought it

Well at least we all know they are real now.

Sal,,Just gut feeling with me. I know the fakes I see around here and in no way do these 55s line up with them. The feel and weight on these are smack on. The aging is not artificial whatsoever. I can be good with my gut feeling on these, I handle tons of EK2s. As I said this one caught my eye and it spooked me a bit. I put mine up for sale and being weirdly paranoid on everything these days I felt ok with it. Then another friend brought it up to me..so I questioned it in crosses. My first off spooking from it wasnt a fake alarm, more of a "thats an odd one"

Fake EKs in Europe are very easy to spot, the weight is usually off and they are sometimes thick as a sandwich.

I can tell you here in my hunting grounds, there has been no influx of these whatsoever. Now if I went to Kassel and every table had 70 55 marked ek2s, I would be worried. The fakers are much to busy mastering PABs to sink such effort into an EK2 to flood the market with.

Saying these crosses are fake,,well if they are,,I will eat my hat as they say.

Also Sal in no way am I trying to defend my sales thread,,I would never risk a good sellers rep with one ek 2. IAm comfortable 100% that those crosses are period.

If anyone thinks they are fake, I will be more then glad to take them off your hands.

Has anyone ever picked one of these up directly from a vet, I got my one from an old guy about 20 years ago and he said that he had owned it for several years.

I see what your saying Dion but what about the 333's some of them are very convincing.

Les, Good question. I could solve the question right now with the source. But I wont do it

I haven't but, again, I'll see one this Sunday that's in a group with four other medals and their docs. I'll try to make a determination whether any of the other pieces are bad. I'll also take along my "55" to compare. It won't be a foolproof determination, to be sure, but it might be indicative.

Compare the 55 cross from RICK S, with any "333" fake and i think you will see that the 333 is a toy compared to the 55. Look at frosting, burnishing, corepaint, rust and general patina

And I bet George will pick up the exact same EK style as on the threads here.

Although I'd love to see Dion literally try and eat his hat I have to say that I agree with him and Peter. The construction, patina, weight, look and feel on my '55' is spot on with all of my other EK2's, and like Dion said, it just "feels right" in your hand.

The crude inner portion of the frame on the ‘55’ Dion posted on the e-stand caught my eye and definitely raised some suspicion, but considering that the flaws are consistent (although more pronounced on some of the other ‘55’ marked examples posted) and taking into account that there are other 100% original medals and badges with “production flaws,” it’s possible that these sloppy ‘55’s’ may very well be another example of late war production quality slips, or just a sloppy maker. Not something I'd expect to see from a German company producing awards for the Military, but definitely possible.

J.E. Hammer & Sohne are still in business, perhaps we should ask them

I'll be honest - I'm rather surprised that these sloppy '55' crosses made it out the door, but after comparing these pics to my '55' and also comparing my ‘55’ to the other EK2’s in my collection, in my opinion the are good.

Let's put it this way: I already have one, and soon I'll have two.

Hey Guys , I did say mine has the right "feel too. But it sure is a screwed up piece! Deserves looking into , and if , God forbid we find out they are not good it ain't like we found out we had a bad RK!

What on earth would even cause the beading to get all wonky in that way???
