I was with Dion when he managed to snag this ribbon, I must say if its bad it fooled us both. It certainly passed all the 'tests' us collectors carry out.

What about the visual test? The ribbon is fake, no need to post more pictures of it.

Ok Guys,,this is crazy. My girlfriend is into sewing and such things. She has went throug hthe roll and further into it the black line is 4 mm like a normal EK ribbon. This roll looks like it was missing a couple lines of thread adding to an abnormal defect.

Amazing I tried out the water dripping test. The repro did not suck the water in but the orginal ribbon did... or was it the other way around

Different Makers?

Here is what I noticed. There were different cutters used. The two on the left look alike, but there is one with sharper tops on the pyramids. The two on the right have narrower serrations. The widths are slightly different. They all passed the blacklight, burn, water, and 'feel' test. On the one the black is thicker than the white area, by a thread or two. I tried the water test on a piece of '57 ribbon, and the water went right through. Maybe the tightness of the weave is more important.

From the end, they look like this. I tapped them on a flat surface, on the bottom the difference is due to the perspective on some ends being closer to the lens. The top view shows height differences.

I don't know anything about weaving, textile production, or how ribbons were/are made. I am getting the feeling that all sorts of differing patterns could be on the same roll, depending on how the machines were set up, differences in thread stock, whatever. I have a lot of these, and quite a few pieces on crosses and a couple ribbon bars. Under 20x they are all slightly different, like finger prints.

Brett, visually Im ok with them,,my whole point of thinking it is repro is because Iam very confused on this 4mm data I read. The first foto is comparing the red to an older used ek ribbon I have (it is the best condition I could find a bit dirty) The right side is the ribbon I got off an EK

The second foto is where I explained my girlfriend caught the black lines becoming 4 mm,,the top is the ribbon off the ek,,,the bottom to the seration is the ribbon I picked up off puppetmaster.

The matchup when the black becomes uniform again. Original ribbon on top was creased slightly given a little off appearance in foto, but these line up perfectly now.

I truly hope it is your camera that is going wild, but it looks like the ribbon has been dyed red in the center were the black on a WW1 ribbon would go.

I bought some of these from you and the "puppet master". I can not recall that there was anything wrong with them or i would not have bought them from you. I still have them in the collection. I do not like what i see here in these photos from you, but as i said this could be a faulty camera or faulty camera operator

Your ribbons are much more the way i like ribbons. Genuine in my opinion. Same source, different source or better camera/operator ?

Same source for the most part. Actually, I'm still learning about the camera. Can someone please tell me about the 4mm test? Are the black/white widths supposed to be equal? Again, all of mine good, IMO. Just seem to be variations, as all are slightly different under higher magnification. I can't believe there were 50-60 different makers. Have you guys noticed different serrations, too? And were these differences with the orange ribbons? Thanks to all! Charlie

Peter, I think Charlies are also puppetmasters,,,If you mean the black on the 1st foto top ribbon, that is the ribbon off a good EK I pulled, not the ribbon Ive been questioning.
