Interesting question!
And, while we are at it: How about the difference in the incuse "4", which is not even close to the other "4" of the 935?
Another question comes up when discussing this topic:
It has been proposed that the use of 935 silver was done to be easy on the newly repaired die. Apart from the technical fact that the difference is marginal (compared to the usual 10 ton press used), why did 'they' go back to 800?
The dent row in the 800-4 is less pronaunced than the 935-4 so the 800 B-Type frames were stuck later, IMHO.
What about the 935's. Going back to 'softer' silver or struck before the 800-4 (to stick with the soft silver thesis..)
And, another very puzzling question, why did 'they' use '800' incuse? And used a (fairly) normal 800 stamp (w/o the '4') on other B-Types?

Just to elaborate a little more on the multitude of S&L B-Type crosses, here's a non-magnetic, neusilber, B-Type. Remarkably, no beading flaws whatsoever! So it was possible to use the repaired die with Neusilber early on. (Neusilber is harder that silver). Loop marked "800" in the middle...Attached Files

800-4
Hi Jimmy,
I have owned two micro 800s, two 935-4s & three 800-4s over years. At this time I`m down to one micro 800 & one 800-4 (which Dietrich has examined) Both micro 800s in used condition. One 935-4 Beautiful, cased untouched mint, the other appeared to have been used but still frosty. One 800-4 mint & cased, the other two 800-4s showed wear & age. I never thought the 800-4s were rare or scarce but, there does not seem to be many around. Hope this helps.
Best regards,
E.

Is it not possible that the incuse 800 4 crosses were made before or at the same time as the 934 4. The softer silver of the 935 accounting the slighter greater definition too the dent row. The softer silver being more malleable. Also what is the loop marked on you crosses. Mine is 935............Jimmy

Three fours
