Out Of The Woodwork Medals! - Help Please!!!

    Hey Fellas,

I am strictly an American collector so please forgive my ignorance. I was invited over to a gentleman's house today to look at his uncle's memorabilia from WWII. This is one of those groups that you just can't stop saying WOW at. This grouping was magnficent, he was an American officer in the 78th Infantry Division. This Colonel returned home and nothing has been touched since then. Included among the grouping were some German medals and other daggers. Tell me what you think of these. I know they are original, but they would like some estimates of value for insurance reasons. Please let me know, I would be very grateful.

The first one is called a KVK 2nd class with swords. The ribbon doesn't look like the one that belongs with it. It is a common medal below the Iron Cross, usually sell for about $45-$50. Not sure what the ribbon is. The second one is a World War One honour cross sometimes called a Hindenberg cross, brought out in 1934 to honor soldiers from the First World War. It is very commmon and sells for not much more than $30 bucks. However with the case it is in I have seen them sell priced at over $200. The case makes all the difference there.

A very nice grouping. This is just a guess, but it looks like the ribbon on the KVK medal is of Imperial style. Again, that's just a guess. The Iron Cross though is a Second Class and is being stored in a first class case. I would estimate seperately that the value of the cross is $85-$90 and the value of the case is around $150-$175. If these items were sold individually, I think the grouping wouuld bring around $500 or in that ballpark. That should do for insurance purposes. However, with proof of them being veteran acquired, some information on the veteran, and maybe some of his personal items, this could become a much more valuable grouping and some collectors would pay a higher price for the grouping than you would get for the individual items.

                            Romanian Anti-Communism medal

                            Hello all,

The medal ribbon on the KvK_2 is for the Romanian Anti-Communist medal. That is one nice cased EK_2.

That case doesn't appear to be for an EK1. Looks like a case for an EK2 to me.
