Makers of EK I marked with L

    Hello

I’m a bit puzzled by the following.
When I look at the markings of the makers of EK I with L in front of the number. I notice they all sign their cross with a L then a / and finally the number. Exemple: L/16

All the makers of EK with this type of number do this except the L59 (Alois Rettenmaier). He marks his crosses with L59. There is no /

Maybe there is a logical explanation for this but can anyone give me more information about this?

    Thanks in advance

    cheers

I think that the answer to your question is simply that different makers did their marks different ways.

.. and also Souval. Interesting to note that all these 4 makers are very close in number as well .... L54, L55, L58 and L59 (coincidence?) ...

Coincidence? Probably, because right in the middle of your series is "L/56".

Ahhh ... I heard that Funcke & Bruninghaus always bucked the system anyway

Thank you all for your reactions.

I thought there was maybe a general rule how to stamp the cross that everybody had to follow but apparently there is no such rule.

                  cheers
