      for anybody who does have a copy of the book called THE IRON CROSS OF 1939 by gordon williamson look at page look at page 150 , the cross pictured is marked L59 but i think this is a match for the one shown below ??
      so is it a or a

        Hello

        In my opinion yours looks like a near perfect match for the standard, unmarked cross shown in the centre of page 151 of 'The Iron Cross of 1939'. The pin, hinge and catch certainly match, wereas the Rettenmaier hardware doesn't. Look at the pin on yours where it attaches to the hinge, the one on the Rettenmaier in Gordons book, the Rettenmaiers in the 1st Class EK section on this forum and the 'standard' one. The 'standard' one and yours both run flat and have a blunt appearance to the end of the pin as it sits on the hinge. The Rettenmaier has a distinctive curve to the pin as it meets with the hinge.

        As a say though, this just my opinion. Either way I feel it's an original cross
