denazified EK1 - trying to replace swaz

    hi all

I have just acquired an awesome Luft groping that includes an unfortunately denazified EK1. The black swaz in the center was simply removed.

Does anyone know where i can find an EK1 swaz to repair it? Any insights on this appreciated

    Best regards

why would you want to repair a ek that was in a grouping ?
i would leave it as it is ... its history

      Hello

I don't think that you will be able to replace the missing swastika. Besides which, is there any need to ? You say that it is a grouping, so pressumably the awards are all to the same person. If that is case I personally would leave it as it is. It's the real award given to that person, and it is also a piece of history from the war period, as well as a historical and social commentary from after the war. Dealers and others do sell these de-nazified EKs, albeit not for as much as an 'un-nazified' cross.

Obviously this is just my personal opinion. I'd say enjoy it for what it is.

      Regards
      David

I get the impression that you think the swastika is a seperate piece that can be replaced. It is part of the center of the cross so there would be no way to find a replacement swa. It must have been ground off and painted black I would guess.

I think this will offend you but i think collecting military awards is not your field just yet. The denazification is a part of the history and you should leave it as it is!

I also think you should leave it the way it it now.
Everything is already said in the posts above.

let us not be too harsh here. This is a new collector I believe, and needs (like everyone does) to learn what collecting is about. Nobody is born knowing what the collecting comunity thinks is the right way to do things. Cleaning and repairing seem natural choices until one gets a glimps into the collecting world. I think it is a perfectly natural question/desire but we should steer a new collector away from damaging the historical and monetary value. Honestly i believe that there is no one here who did not consider actions like this in thier early days before knowing any better.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insights, and I am not offended.

I am a collector of named and numbered daggers (Heer, Luft, KM, SA), but I just couldnt let this grouping pass me by. Includes the EK1 and a sports badge (both denazified by the family after the war), very nice photo of this Luft Hauptmann, his ID disc, and best of all his flight book with many mission entries over London, Liverpool, Bristol, and then the Ostfront.

I appreciate the points made and I wont attempt to restore the two awards

                regards

Here is the grouping with the EK1. Counting the days (hope no more than 4) to receive this!
