Artificial patina is not difficult to create. Art fakers use tea and the content of vacum cleaners to age and make counterfeit oil paintings look old. This method can be used on documents as well. Acids or agressive cleaning fluids can tarnish paint and other surface treatments. Some fakers leave the dagger or helmet in the flower bed for 6 month to make it rust. A week outside your window in rain can make an iron cross build rust.
Cheers.

Thank you.
