    Odd 1st Class Spange

While Jim Pool was visiting we decided to go through one of my 'junk boxes'. This spange was placed there, years ago, as it doesn't correspond with any original I knew of, back then.

It appears to be tombak, which would make me wonder why the base for the catch.

The 1939 box is slightly vaulted which may look distorted, in my photos.

It is unlike the 'raptor' fake, and is probably some other copy. Anyone have any clues?

    Thank you,
    Bob Hritz

      Hello,

The Pin and catch remind me of a souval and since souval didn't make spanges i'd say fake.

      Kind regards,

Looks very soft on the back and no fletching on the wings, I would say bad

I agree it must be bad, and the same type is illustrated on the Reproduction Forum. I was wondering if anyone knows when they showed up on the collector's market.

Souval did not make spanges? I am not aware of Souval marked spanges, but have never seen the official list of makers. Souval did make a lot of Iron Crosses in both 1st and 2nd Class, why not spangen?

Swaz seems poorly executed as well.
