    Dear Dave,

It is a typical Meybauer (see the crest) screwback and IMO a good one. Sometimes additionally marked PM on the disc.

      DRGM

      Thanks Frank,
I take it the DRGM has the cross as Third Reich made, what is the number on the disk (not the raised number, but the stamped one) for? quality control? Its not a silver content number...

When I saw it, I thought the spike at the bottom was the remnants of a catch and it was a screwback conversion, but the more I look at it, the more I think it is a spike to keep a screwback cross from spinning which are usually on the top arm? (unless I the cross is upside down in the photo)....

          Dear Dave,

-No, the "spike" is the Meybauer crest, you have to turn the pic upside down to see it correctly.

-Number under the DRGM number should indeed be the silver mark

-DRGM doesn´t necessarily make it THIRD Reich, this term also existed in the Imperial German Reich. I believe the cross to be WWI period.

              Good Cross

              Hello Dave,

No originality problems with this cross. Frank gave you the low down on the particulars. I also have one of these in my collection. It's one of my favorites.

              Best regards and good hunting!

This is a privately purchased cross marked with "DRGM" = Deutsches Reichs-Gebrauchsmuster to denote it is made after official regulations. The number below the DRGM is some kind of patent-no. The DRGM or DRP marks are like the marks on US awards (e.g. LI-GI, **-GI = **-Government issue).

eBay never ceases to amaze me. $700?? I paid $325 for a 3 piece with cross shaped backing plate in MINT condition and of higher quality about two years ago at a show and was embarrassed to admit it.

                      Thats what I was thinking...

I was only mildly interested in this cross in the $250 range. Yeah, if it wasnt shill bidding, Im sure the seller is pleased.

I must be remembering incorrectly, but my recollection is that items marked DRGM, ie "Deutsches Reichs" were all post imperial. Frank says no...

So my WW1 wound badges that are marked DRGM which I assumed were post WW1 could be made before 1918?

                          Good Lord!

                          That much? Yikes!!

The patent is for the type of attaching device, by the way. Only found on pieces made by Paul Meybauer. As Frank mentions, you can see the crest on the lower arm of the cross. Other Meybauer awards with this particular type of device include wound badges and Freikorps awards...
