    Oak Leaves and Diamonds

What are some important points to look for when dealing with Oak leaves with swords and diamonds. Are there specific maker marks, weight, feel etc. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

    Anthony,

as you most likely know, there were only 27 awardees. There are several models, the most important are the A-Type (platinum and diamonds) and B-Type (silver and Simli).

I might be completely wrong, but the chances are extremely low that you will ever be in the fortunate position to have the chance to buy a real set. However, if that might ever be the case, you better make sure that the set you intend to buy is backed up with a 100% trace of ownership back to the original recipient or 'finder'. The set which was currently for sale in Germany at an auction house, for example, was a fake.

There are very good pictures in Stephen Previtera's book "The Iron Time".

      Best,
I would recommend reading Gordon Williamson's excellent book "The Iron Cross of 1939". I would also recommend having about $100,000+ spending money if you are interesting in acquiring one.

Yes, is true, there were only 27 awarded, so the price is extremely high
I dont know if 100G is ok...i think they worth more, like 175,000 - 200,000

100,000 or a bit less can go for a RK with swords, right?

I would be very cautious on this. You could probably name your price for Diamonds, also depends who they belonged to as to where to start. $200,000 for starters? With only 27 recipients, you better have documentation from their family(children), or something very strong to back the authenticity also.

Ohh yes, of course, big amount making sure that its an original one, and it would also be better to buy it directly from the family
It also depens, not every diamons set worth the same
I bet Rudel's one is the most expensive

I wouldn't mind having Rommel's or Hartmann's, but I'd take one from any of them.

This whole business of throwing prices around is absolutely unfounded and useless. And yes, one can surely buy a RK with swords clearly under 100K. But what are a few 100K more or less for some...

                            Rommel's one is the best
