Color of inlay for EK1 case

Hi all,

The following question would fit in the 'case and packets'-forum too, but it goes perfectly with this part as well.
The color of the inlay in an Iron Cross 1st class case is either always black or white/beige. Is there a particular reason or porpuse behind the use of these colors? At first hand, I could not find much while searching the forum. Could it be related to being private purchases (?).
