    Iron Cross cores

I came across this photo at the Wikipedia. It's been taken at a Museum in Hamburg.

    Hi,

this is a very interesting picture. What we see here are the obverse core parts of the rare cross with the two piece core.
The obverse and the reverse part of that cross are individually hollow stamped pieces made out of iron sheet metal.

I have such a cross in my collection which is divided into its parts.

I'll post a picture of the parts.

    Regards
    Andreas

These stamped cores have also been used in the EKI.

In fact the stamped sheet cores are more often found on EKIs than EKIIs. The reason is simple. The EKI requires only one core insert. It makes no difference in the finished product if the core is stamped from sheet steel or struck from a thicker planchet.

On the other hand, correctly alligning the two core stampings between two frame halves and then soldering them together can be a manufacturing hassle. Assembly of just one solid core between the frames was much easier. Hence the scarcity of hollow core EKIIs.

Thanks Andreas, for posting the excellent example of the EKII hollow core.

Very interesting. I asked about this a while ago but did not get much response.

Cheers and thanks for showing these pieces

            Hi,

i'm every time pleased if i could post something that is informative.

I'm also really happy having found this forum with his very speciallized catagorys where one can diskus things on a higher level.

It's the first time in my live that i support something like a internetforum with money and i think that was a really good investment.

            Regards
            Andreas

that cross was not marked. I've the ribbonring without any mark but i haven't found it until now.
So i don't know the maker. Do you know who is the maker?

                  Regards

I cant remeber right now, but it have been posted here not long ago.
It´s not one off the normal makers, and what is odd is that 3 in 1813.
If im not all way out it was posted whit bag, Look at the maker tread and then search. A bit off a jobb but well worth the efford.
