    iron cross

    Hello

Would like to know if any iron cross first classes were made without the iron center? I have run across one that has a non magnetic center but seems original. If possible I would like to get some feedback on this. I have heard that some were made for the navy but, how frequently do you run across them?

Yes they were made of material other than iron. Zinc and Brass come to mind as two variations.

As far as being Navy issue pieces that's some old wive's tale that is not true.

Non-magnetic is not official Navy Issue, But when it was known by Kriegsmarine recipients, that non magnetic cross with "messing" center is available it was used and appreciated.

I have broken L/19 cross with die stamped hollow messing center - just painted black. I do not know what kind of different non-magnetic centers are around(?) zinc and brass as Darrel said I preassume. Some hollow, zinckers probably not.

Thanks for the quick reply. How often to you run across them? I do not collect crosses but do like to have some on hand.

They are not all that common. Brass more so than zinc.
