    Deumer EK1 Spange flaws

    Hi,

Just a quick question, how common are the Deumer EK1 Spanges with flaws on both 9s? I don't have the one attached in hand (yet) but it looks to be good quality basemetal (not zinc imo) and I was curious as to how early these flaws might have formed and whether a new die (or copy of the old one) was used for later (zinc) Deumer examples.

    Regards
    Mike

Good to see this posting, guys, as I was just researching the same thing. Am on holidays away from my residence where all of my research material resides and turned to the Forum.

I just acquired an identical 1st class spange that also has the exact same flaws on the 9s, as well as a flaw under the eagle's beak - as also seen above - which, if not mistaken, I seem to recall reading somewhere is referred to as the "bearded" eagle and is an acceptable flaw, as well.

Perhaps someone can confirm or deny these flaws, please? Sorry, but I am presently unable to post a scan of mine.

          Thanks and regards,
          John

PS: Just found this thread which also refers and provides confirmation:

Here now are pictures of my "bearded" Deumer EK1 Spange referenced in #5 above, which also has the "number" flaws on the 9s. Pity that the needle is missing.

                  Hello,

I have just checked up my Deumer 1st class eagle and have noticed that he has only the flow under the beak.
Date and reverse are absolutly fine stamped.

My 2 Deumer EK1 spangen. One 'bearded' and the other not, yet both displaying a degree of the die flaw to the leftmost '9' of the date.

I have a "flaw king" as well marked L/11: flawed "9"s, bearded beak and diagonal scratches on the reverse of the right wing. I think I only saw one without the "beard" flaw for sale here on eStand a while back and it does make a difference in whow this bird looks but I still like mine anyway flaws & all!

                        Regards
