What is it that is the tipoff that this is fake?

I hope it is appropriate to post this question here, but I am trying to learn and understand from the pictures what makes a good Knights Cross. I posted a Knights Cross a few days back that got the thumbs down too. It looked similiar. Is it the fact that the suspension ring extends below the edge of the cross frame? The stampings for silver content on this piece also look a bit crude. Is this another tip? What else.

US, there's very little 'science' to these medals....a handful of makers and each with its own 'signature' and 'fingerprint'!

The Cross shown here can be bought today via an English dealer named Morige (sp?) for approx. $150.

Lately there have been a few RK's that are obvious fakes being shown on the forum. There are much better fakes out there, unfortunatly. My advice is to study this website until you can pick out fakes other people post- every time! Unless you can afford to take a hit that could approach 10K-study,study,study! And study the pinned articles,too. Charlie
