S&L core and frame....but judging by the placement of the '800' in the frame
who and where was this assembled?

Very interesting indeed!
Could we have a picture of the lower portion of the 3 O'clock arm including the portion going inwards. And also the knee area between 6 and 9 o'clock!

There is a big difference between "interesting" and "'genuine".
I did not think for a second that the pictured cross is pre-45. However, the very close resemblance to an S&L, including d rudimentary dent row, was promting me to make my comment.
Now if all that was required was a " " or "" I retract my comment and will persue the issue off record.
