    Help on Spange zum EK1 mm L/20

    Dear all,

    My first post to you, so I hope I do things ok.
    Forgive and correct me if I don’t…

    Can anyone help me out with a Spange zum EK1 maker marked L/20.
    The trouble is: I assume it is a post war piece, but I didn’t find any information about fake or real L/20 Spangen on this site.
    Neither the books from Gordon Williamson can help me out.

    Why do I assume it is a fake?

    - The oak leafs on originals seem to have a double leaf vein (hope I used the correct word). This one does not.
    - The piece lacks any (traces of) frosting.
    - The metal seems… don’t know…shiny.

    Why do I still have a little hope?
    - The sharp details of the piece.
    - The fact that no one mentions fake (neither real) L/20 marked pieces.

    I hope a fresh look can help me out, I’m stuck with this one.

    Your assumption is correct. It is a post war piece. Always go with your "gut" feelings, and don't let your mind talk you into the "it might be good" mode.

        Hello martin!

        I agree full with Tom. The "it might be good" mode can cost you a lot of money.
        Beeing sceptical allways is important for having fun at your hobby.

          I've never seen a real L/20, and ALL these with a raised mark are repros
          Spangen are a minefield for us, and as mentioned gut feeling is usually correct. The majority of spangen flying around are no good. Study the good ones shown on this site, then study again and take care, even with the good looking ones!

            Thank you all for the quick help, explanation and advise.

            I bought this piece years ago and luckily it was not top priced, so I will consider that as school-fee.
            Although now it is approved to be a $10 piece, school-fee seems rather high...

            Quite a heavy school year too!
            Up ‘til last week I thought I was the proud owner of 17 Iron Crosses.
            Sniffing around this forum tells me I have been Floched twice...
            What more will come out???

            Should I stay here, or live on in ignorance, comfortably numb?
            Nah, I will stick around and quench to the knowledge source, I’m too thirsty...

              these are hard lessons, we've all been through it. You'll sleep better in the end, and treasure the good 'uns even more
              I more or less liquidatied a huge percentage of a life long collection about 10 years ago. When I was young I barely considered the existence of repros!

                welcome! I'm sorry that you got bad stuffs, but fakes are fakes, aren't they? I think you need to stick around here, and you will learn more about realy stuffs. A lot of good references and experts are here...you can't miss them. Good luck!
