Hi Jeff. The Pin and Hinge are replacements for sure. Is there any way you can get a closer, clearer shot of the mm?

My camera can't get a real good shot of the "4". Here is the best I can do. Thanks, appreciate more opinions.

Thanks Jeff. Mikael, it would be nice to see yours with same pin and hinge. Haven't got one in my files (yet).

                    Hello

In my opinion this a text book original example of a war time produced S&L EK. For reference, see page 139 of 'The Iron Cross of 1939' by Gordon Williamson and, or, page 176 of 'The Prussian and German Iron Cross' by V E Bowen.

                    Regards
                    David

Thanks for the opinions Gentlemen. Given the source I got it, I never had reason to doubt it was good. Was considering selling it as part of my collection downsizing, but the potential buyer thought it was fake.

Appreciate anymore opinions before I offer for sale.

I'm not sure what you guys are looking at but the S&L "4" EKI on page 139 of Gordon's book has the "block" hinge, absent in Colorodo's cross. I'm still learning, and hope this cross is a good one from the seller's point of view.

                          Hello

Nate, like you I'm still learning, (in fact in this hobby do you ever stop learning ?), but between Williamsons and Bowens books I believe that are enough similarities and pointers for this to be a genuine war time piece from S&L. I agree that the one in Gordons book has a block hinge but there other manufacturers who used more than one style of hinge on their war time production EKs.

                          Regards
                          David

Didn't S&L use a similar type hinge and pin on their KVKs without swords? (I'm not home now, and can't check....) Wouldn't it have been possible that they occasionally used the same hinge/pin on an EK?

Just for the record, I never said it wasn't original. Everything but the hinge and pin are 100% ok.

It's just I have never seen an S&L with these two type reverse parts on an EK1. If anyone can show one in their collections or a picture I'm convinced this is original to this cross.

George may be correct. We need some pics guys ...
