    Dear Mike,

Good point about the Hof-Juwelier and absolutely right. It is a bogus mix on that carton of half-truths. I stopped thinking further when I saw the two missing Umlauts.

Wilm was a BERLIN maker in the Imperial period. This is another example of "excessive hallmarking overkill."

Supposedly the firm survived the last war and had offices in Hamburg and Düsseldorf AFTER 1945, but here again is another example of Germans who "forgot" how to spell their own language, doh!

Actually, I'm not particularly happy about that case, because some time back Stijn started a thread about the cardboard markings on parts inside and virtually all seemed to have been from the same couple of makers, with part numbers relevant to the specific cardboard inserts. That may be in here on a back page or in War Badges or General Wehrmacht.

The fact that yours appears to be without these "standard" embossed hidden inner cardboard markings activates my Paranoia Switch!

Back Again: found the old case parts marking thread and moved it back up front.

          case review,

Rick, even though many cases came marked there were also many that were not marked. As you can see, the only marking inside this one has been done with a purple-colored pencil. I think
          it is '210'.

I'm not too worried about the case. The thread you mention revolves around people seeing what is marked inside their cases.
I'm sure that many of the cases devoid of markings just weren't reported on the thread-after all,why should they be? No markings,
          no info for the thread...

            Eric,

Also, "offnen" requires an umlaut over the "o". Seems that the copyist may not have been able to produce this symbol with their type set.

Oops - I now see that this was already mentioned above. $145 seems a great price for the cross and case, however.
