    Cased EK I Spange

    Hello Gentleman,

I have this cased EK1 spange listed on my site and I would appriciate any feedback that you might have. The pice was aquired a few years ago from an extremely reilable source. I have been stung on an EKII spange from a different source that I had posted on an earlier thread. This one appears to be a solid example. The reverse looks as though a cleaning in attempt to locate a makers mark was done at one point. Any input that you might have would be appriciated.

    Thank you,
    JD

      Hi Joe,

Looks like a good one to me. I'd say made by B.H. Mayer.

      Cheers & Roebuck

        Hi Joseph,

I like the spange too, although I won't guess at the maker. I don't think it has been cleaned though, I think the brighter silver on the reverse is actually the remains of the original finish. When mint, it would have sparkled!

          Dear Joe,

B.H. Mayer is a very good guess from Tim, his spanges are often unmarked and judging by the little obverse pic it matches a Meyer spange. The pin is usually not thinner towards the end, but I don´t see that too much as a problem.

O also concur with Mike that this was no cleaning attempt. It´s the best part of the badge!

I have these pics on file from somebody, please tell me if you wish them to be removed if you are the owner.

          Cheers, Frank

              Hello Gentleman,

Thank you kindly for the intel. Would you say that this is a fairly rare maker or common, highly sought after. Spanges are not my strongest area so a push in the right directon would help.

              Cordially Yours,

              JD

                Dear Joe,

Not an especially rare one. But design wise they are a fine choice IMO.

                Cheers, Frank

I like it very much, Joe

Pieces like this really talk. The fact that there was a little bit more effort put into the finishing of the pin speaks volumes to me, at least. Reminds me of well made 1914 EK1's. That flourish is really nice to see. Makes it stand out from the crowd. It may not even be a Mayer piece!

Does the case have the image of the Spange on the lid?

(Ooops. Never mind! I just went to your site and saw that it did! )
