I do not like it. The date box and the wreath have bad definition.

      Cheers.

I agree with Peter, that date box just does not look right. In fairness however, this is not my main area of interest .

I think it looks like it has been cast in lead.
The date bar looks like it has been cut to shape with a knife or something. I do not like it, and that was why I suggested that it should be discussed.

            Best regards

My eyes are a bit off after some whiskeys here, but does the span of the spaces between both wings and the head seem right? And also the pebbling. The first 9 appears a bit strange.

In my opinion it does look like a lead casting.

I really do not think taht the Germans would produce such a low quality piece, look how uneven the edge is on the date bar!

                  Best regards Flemming

                    not L/13 but L/18
It matches up nicely to another L/18 I have on file, apart from the numerals. That could be down to it being knocked though, and even the cast-looking 'bubbling' could be down to itis finish ageing.
I've not seen those pins before, so I'd like to have it in-hand to see if it bends etc.
It may be OK, but further investigation would be needed
                    regards

Compare the spange from George with the piece in question. I have highlighted a few details. In my opinion, the spange that started this thread, is a copy of the type of spange George posted.

                        Cheers.

                          Hi,

Imo this one should be given the benefit of the doubt until more info is available.

I'd like genoa41 to provide some detailed/accurate measurements.

At present, comparisons have been made between high quality earlier "buntmetal" examples and genoa's (to me) apparently ZINC example. Is it a casting? Or is what is being highlighted as "bad" actually the result of die-wear, damage and/or zincpest (any or all combinations possible). Personally, I really like the reverse of genoa's example - small round plates with imo correct Mayer prongs and classic zincer finish with the original silver almost exclusively present only on the attachment hardware.

Here's the only scan I have of my example - sorry it's smallish but you can at least see the reverse and compare the prong style.

                          Regards
                          Mike

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

I'd be inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt also. (If it's a casting, it's certainly been done from an original.)

I also have an EK2. Spange with wavy borders on the year trapezoid that is being discussed at this link: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...94#post5686394. I can only notice the wavy borders when I tilt the Spange towards the lights or on the photos. With a straight on view with the naked eyes, they are very hard too see or notice.
