Hi John,
I would say different sources. There was up to earlier this year still a lot of confusion about the actual numbers, ranks and such. A lot of it had to do with politics of the "Ordensgemeinschaft der Ritterkreuztraeger" (OdR), the reunion of the Knights Cross Bearer, founded in 1955.
I suggest you buy the just published book "Die Ritterkreuztraeger" by Veit Scherzer, Scherzer Militaier Verlag.
He lists all official RK recipients with date and such. All of them. And his list is about 200 men shorter than the lists circulating so far. Reason being that he did not allow for some of the later granted crosses by the OdR, based on irregular procedures.
Unfortunately, the book (outstanding as it is) lists only in alphabetical order, but you will be able to come up with the correct numbers for each month, each grade or whatever - just go thru all 7000 plus names...

Maybe the best source on this continent here is:
http://www.jjfpub.mb.ca/ritterkreuztraeger.htm
But you can always go direct:

Dietrich. The frustration of not been able to read German! In the latest issue of "Militaria" Jan/Feb 2006 there is a challenge to Mr Scherzer from Dr Hess and Frau Halm of the Knights Cross Ordensgemeinschaft ...who,I think are saying that two soldiers,Willy Bachor and Ludwig Baur, possibly omitted in this new book, are considered RK winners by them...interesting...
