    Marshall,
You really are a pain in my keyster - here I am providing valuable information and you go piss in my coffee. Turn blue!

Don't know what to say, Herr Photoshop, mayhaps the "current" items are not as original as attributed. But WE CAN NOT DENY that those ain't normal oaks and I doubt Panang had a stash of RKs.

    UNCLE!!!

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programing...
    Marc

Any information on what material that was used for the oakleafs ?
Is the RK solid silver or multipart construction (core and frame) ?

            Thanks.

                Peter,
                Nothing on the Oaks.

                The RK:

                51mm wide, 56,5 high, 23.0 g

                925 silver

The article says it is one-piece construction, "...aus einem Stuek gepraegt."

The eye is soldered on to the core.

Others on his boat were awarded the DKiG and EK1 made of sterling silver.

Marc, the Generalmajor didn't receive the Oaks until he held the rank of Major...

Or am I mis-reading the post?

                              Dave,
Thanks so much for making me go back and read the German again. I can't tell you how much I enjoy that.

According to THIS article, "one of the most famous German Infantry officers of the 2nd World War, and later a bearer of the swords Generalmajor Erich Baerenfaenger, on 17 May 1943 as a Captain and Commander of III/GR 123...and a whole lot more German follows"

You know you love it!! The 'research' afterall is why we are here
The ability to decern obvious differences and discuss the result drags us back each time...

Where would the hobby be if we didn't question, or worse, accepted blurry pictures as 'proof'!
                                Regards,
                                Dave
