      Marc,
Perhaps this was a field done piece?

The "Golden Oaks" were made for Hauptmann Erich Baerenfaenger by the Battalion's Waffenmeister for wear until he received the official oaks in the Wolfsschanze. We often see crap out there, but these guys often wore something before the official ceremony!

And then there are those not in a position to get a cased RK and have to make due, as did LzS Johannes Limbach. Just look at the place the RK was awarded!

Thats nice. I think though that the portrait photo of Johannes Limbach show him wearing a EK1 as a substitute for the RK.

                Cheers.

                        Hey Marc

Still a little toooo cryptic for this poor southener...

....are you suggesting that the funky lookin' field made oaks and sterling silver RK you posted above are the same ones being worn by Bärenfänger and Limbach in the photos you posted of them - or are these photo's merely to provide us with a 'face' to the personalities?

By the way - that document is awesome.

According to the article I got this from they are indeed being worn in the photos.

                            Is it a BDOS article?

I'm glad this isn't a Rounder photo - cos while I don't doubt either piece, I would have 'issues' with the photos portraying these pieces being worn.

You have the original article there - how does the left hand side of the 'field oaks' look to you, compared to the ones worn in Bärenfänger's photo?..... (and like Peter, I can't see any suspension device on the 'RK' Limbach is wearing either)

I obviously have WAY too much time on my hands.... and you know me - I never can resist some sort of anal 'photo collage'..
