I the Bazaar I came about this quote form our very knowledgable lifetime member Bob Hritz:

"However, I would rather have this Souval Knight's Cross than 90% of the K&Q Knight's Crosses on the market."

Since I know that Bob doesn't make such a statement lightly I would like him to elaborate a little bit more and invite also everybody else to joint the discussion.

Fact is: K&Q was a wartime manufacturer and there are crosses with provenance. So that's undisputable.

Personally, although I'm not a great collector of Iron Crosses, K&Q are my favourite of all the RK makers.

K&Q crosses have what I like - that 'chunky' look.........more like a military award than a piece of jewellery, if you know what I mean.

This K&Q cross is the only RK I own, the only RK I have ever owned, and the only RK I'd ever want to own.

I might be wrong with my interpretation of Bob's statement but what I was reading out of it was not a statement of beauty or not. I read this more like a statement that 90% of all K&Q are 'more post war' than Souvals.
But I might be wrong and await Bob's explanation.

First of all Thanks Robin.

And secondly I think that all 65 RKs with the right die characteristics and flaws are pre 45.
Mine has been tested by Flak88/Marc to see if there was postwar paint used on the cross.
The tests showed that the paint was pre 45.
It also comes from one of our favorite dealers Herr Niemann,
Not to say Herr Niemann is never wrong, but I think he has handled alot more of these than I/we ever will.

This is the only type of reproduction of a K&Q i know. Found it at a German auction a while ago.

Having the dietools is one thing. You will need the machinery and knowledge to operate them as well.

i become now to the point is it fun too start a collection in ww2 medals.
there are always people who have critiscem.
you must always defend your beloved piece ,etc,etc.
k & Q is bad .post war souval is the best.
i respect bob !
absolute ,but what is his point ?
he love too sell his souval for the price of a wartime k & Q kc.
this kind off people destroy the fun in collecting.but another fact are we that kind of people who follow them blind with there opinion.
you can have a collection what is worth a lot of money and think i know everything but he can also be wrong !!!!
yust my opinion not loved by all but i say my opnion.

First off,
Mads, that is one fantastic cross

Ive seen Bobs cross in the bazaar, Ive never seen a souval be priced in that region ever! I got a souval cross plus oaks swords from a member here for £40 ($70), granted not as early as Bob's and not in the same condition but still $850 is a lot for a reproduction IMO. But then there are some post war S&L's that go for much more so I guess it's down to supply and demand. Good luck to Bob in his sale.

K&Q's? Who wouldn't want a KQ? I'm not really sure of what the %'s are for those produced in the war and those after but, if I had the cash I'd make sure that any K&Q came with a COA and I'd be more than happy. One thing is for sure, no souval cross is war time, K&Q's are, not much more to debate really.
