I'd like to see some, too. The screwback example I have does not have the core I would expect to see on a Mayer, and indeed it appears that the frame has been taken apart and reassembled at some point in time.
Thanks, just what I am looking for. I have this cross, which I have shown before some time ago. It is a private puchase cross, personalised by the Uniform Outfitter it was bought from....
Dietrich, the back and frame of my "L/18" screwback match yours perfectly. But I think that the core on mine might have been replaced. (The cross has surely been opened up and reclosed.) What do you (or anyone else) think?
i have the theory that deumer supplied b.h. mayer with cores and frames nearlly the whole war. only in the very first months (?) b.h. mayer produced cores and frames themself. i think so because there some EK1 as well as EK2 mm L/18 that do not match with the "typical" b.h. mayer EK - that indeed matches deumers 100%. these "very early" L/18 ek have a core similar to steinhauer. maybe your cross is a "mixture" of the old and the new production???
