    Detlev Splitting up KC w/Oakleaves?

Why is Detlev splitting up an S&L RK w/oakleaves into 2 seperate sales on his latest "new items update"? He is usually pretty good about keeping things together-why split up something like this??? Docs are one thing-but this is saddening, dealer or otherwise.

I had some troubles this morning too, but got on after awhile.

Could be that he's splitting it up because nobody is buying it together. Too much $$$ for most of us. He's gotta make his profit.

Well its not my area to really stand up and say anything, but i have always felt that when it comes together it should stay together. Spliting a RK and oakleaves is truely wrong. That soldier but his arse on the line to earn those two awards and they should stay together, just my thoughts. Matt

I think given the prices of each if someone who could afford them both really wanted them they would be able to get them. I doubt if they were taken in the first 60 seconds.

I was sad to see this as well. It's a tradegy to see the medals or documents scattered to the 4 corners of the earth. From a pure historical perspective, they should be left together until the right buyer comes along. They survived all these years as a set and were awarded to the same guy. This happens probably more than you'd think with other lessor items like a case split off from a badge, ribbons swapped, etc.

            We're just care takers anyway...

Sure its sad, to see history split up, but thats what happens. One has to remember Detlev is in business to make money and provide a service. We are the ones who buy such serivces. In the shrewd business sense, in order for Detlev to keep bringinging us the products that we so desperatly desire, he has to make a profit and if you look at other sites, he always sells for the best prices. That is why we go to him and await the fated 'it's yours' when we go there. Detlev makes business on volume and the more volume he can move the more money he can make and the more items he can buy at wholesale and provide us with. The other sites may not break items up as much, but they more rely on profit from big sales. RK's that sit on their site for years sometimes as an example. Their stock does not change much. My thoughts are that if you have the money to keep the items together buy them both! It was a great price for the set if you did anyhow.

Can anyone remember how much they were as a set?

Prices were 11000 and 6500 euro if I remember correctly. None of the items was cased but these are fair prices I would think.

                    Hello

If memory serves, the complete set was around £12500 (GBP), or approx €18300 or $22000 USD when they first appeared around two weeks ago.

I agree that it is sad to split up sets, but a dealer cannot exist without selling inventory to pay necessary business costs, living expenses, and obtain new merchandise. Anyone who is truely disturbed by the splitting of this set can mearly call Detlev and buy them; hense, uniting the set for posterity.

would you still have to pay import duty if Detlev or anyone else would ship an item of that value to outside of Europe? I assume, that because he is a registered business, he would also file to appropriate customs papers to go with items like this? Or do you normally receive high value items from Europe without customs papers? Cheers, Torsten.

PS: Don't worry I am not going to grass on Detlev or anyone else to customs, but I am just interested to know....
