Sellers description is as follow:

KNIGHT CROSS of the IRON CROSS 1939, 800 silver marked on the rim, on the suspension ring marked 800 silver, typical piece from the manufacturers of Steinhauer & Lueck, not magnetic core, excellent condition, very rare

I too have been looking at this RK on this particular dealers site. I'm not certain about this one as a couple of months or so ago I'm pretty certain the same RK was sold by this dealer - and it is now back on his site. I can only assume from this that the purchaser has examined it 'in the hand' and rejected it.

However, I am not expert on these crosses, and I don't, as yet, own one, (something I'm hoping to rectify soon, which is why I was looking at this one as well). If it is an original I would hazzard a guess, based on the information in this forum and from details given in certain books, that it is an early S&L.

Your best bet is to either PM the likes of Dietrich Maerz or Peter Wiking, (among others who are very knowledgable about RKs), and ask their opinion, or hope that some of the more experienced collectors respond to this thread.

For my pennies worth, I have looked at this one and decided to give it a miss. It could well be 100% original, but there is something about it I don't like - and not just because I believe it has been sold once before and now returned. If you are looking to buy it then, given the current deal on it, I hope it is confirmed as original and that you get it.

I had one of these crosses and had it looked at by D. Niemann. In his opinion, the cross I sent him was post-war, in assembly at least. They are relatively plentiful on many dealer sites, and are always a good 25% cheaper than other originals. They are characterised by a small bubble in the 9 o'clock frame, about 1 cm from the lower outer corner. The cross you have shown also has this feature. Here.......

this cross is made by S&L and it is clearly a B-Type. This, coupled with the non-magnetic core, does make it a post war cross IMHO for sure. And it is nor 'very rare'! This type of cross was manufactured by S&L and shipped to collectors to the USA via small dealers till the early 60's.

It is astonishing that some (not DN!) of the high level dealers just do not know about this and still are trying to sell every non-magnetic core S&L as early and rare! I wonder why that is.

Interesting that this one is "800" marked on the frame. These usualy have unmarked frames. Could we see a detailed shot of the "800" mark on the frame please?

Albert, this may be true, but all the crosses I have seen with flawless B-type frames and non-magnetic cores, whether 800 or 935 marked or not, have had this mark....
