          EK Statistics!

          Blitz,

What a great topic for a thread! I would of posted sooner but I had to go to the bank ( The good stuff is safely tucked away.) to finalize my count. I'm glad I'm not the only hard core Iron Cross collector out there. Unfortunately I had sold several dozen examples over the years to finance other purchases.

          Here's my tally to date.

          1813

          EKII - 2 ( 1 regular, 1 prinzen)

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------

          1870

EKI- 1 ( GODET marked on backplate with two side hooks on arms)

          EKII- 4 (1- cased w/25 yr oaks; 1- w/25yr oaks; 1- non combatant; 1 prinzen)

Merit Cross for Women & Maidens- 1- w/ ribbon bow

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------

          1914

Gross Kreuz- 1 ( This is a one piece struck, 800 marked example which is identical to the one shown on page 265 of "Das Eiserne Kreuz 1813-1939" by Jorg Nimmergut published by the Deutsches Ordensmuseum Ludenscheid, 1990.)

          Wiederholungsspange- 1 ( on ribbon)

EKI- 24 ( 1 prinzen; 1 engraved; 6 cased, one with outer carton; 8 screwbacks; 1 GODET with side hooks cased)

EKII- 50 ( 1 prinzen; 4 cased; 2 non combatant; 4 court or ribbon bar mounted)

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------

          1939

          KC- 1 ( 800 marked)

          EKI- 16 ( 6 cased, 1 round 3 and 1 screwback cased; 5 other screwbacks uncased)

EKII- 30 ( 6 court or ribbon bar mounted including a round 3 and 3 Schinkel style examples; 1 battle damaged example ( shot thru )

          Spanges

          I cl- 2 ( 1 cased)

II cl- 6 ( 1 LDO boxed; 1 prinzen; several minatures)

          --------------------------------------------------------------------------

          1957

KC- 3 ( All cased, all 800, both early and late style; 1 with oakleaves and one with oakleaves and swords)

Swords- 3 ( Including the one mentioned with KC)

Oakleaves- 2 ( Including the one mentioned with KC)

EKI- 3 ( Both early and late styles; 1 cased; 1 prinzen)

EKII- 3 ( Both early and late style)

          Spange- 1 ( pinback style)

          -------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all I got to report.

I personally know of two other collections that are almost double the size and a third one that is comprable in size. These are very high quality collections and not just a numbers accumilation wthout regards to quality. The combined totals would be in excess of 850 examples. This may sound like a lot but the combined years of collecting easily exceeds 100!

After looking over the list of my Iron Cross collection I'm wondering where the collector leaves off and the NUT comes in!

          Best regards and good hunting!

            Correction!

            Duh!

I made a mistake about the Godet mark on the 1870 EKI. The Godet stamp is on the back of the cross and not the pin. The Godet mark on the pin is the 1914 EKI with side hooks.

Thank you, Tiger 1, for your participation. That Gross Kreuz will certainly look good in the statistics!

                    Hi All,

I only have an EK2nd Class MM65. If anyone is selling any EK1's I would be happy to purchase them. Let me know if you can help.
