Multiple awards?

Were individuals ever awarded the same decoration more than once? I had always thought they were not (unlike the US military where one may be awarded the same decoration multiple times). However, I was just reading Charles Whiting's 1974 book, Hunters from the Sky, and he mentions a Leutnant Erich Lepkowski who had won the German Cross in Gold twice. I know that there are numerous errors in this book; however, I was not sure on this particular point.

I have not heard of any grade of the EK (or the DK) being awarded twice to the same individual -- unless you count those persons who won the First or Second classes in both World Wars One and Two.

There were people awarded the DK in gold and silver.
