    Rim Feature Iron Crosses

I hope that someone can help me with the following, on VERY close examination of my Iron Crosses I discovered something strange. Between the ribs of some of the 2nd Class and 1st Class crosses is still some metal left. I would like to know if someone else noticed the same thing? Maybe someone even knows how this could happen?

    Many thanks,
    Pascal

        Pascal,

Some people think that that effect is caused by the rim die being cracked.

          Hi Pascal,

I'm one of the people that believes the feature was formed by cracked dies. The effect on EK2s and EK1s is not uncommon.

            Rim Feature .

This feature is caused by a crack in the die.
You shoud read the posts on the Steinhauer & Luck Knight Cross.

              Flaws....

Yep... as commented, this is the famous die flaw feature. If these were Knights Crosses they would be considered post war copies by many !
(goodness, lets not start that one again)

Thank you all for the information you gave me on the die flaw.
This forum never stops to amaze me.
Chris, I presume you mean the so called Steinhauer & Luck post war copies, what exactly do you mean by this and are they really copies or not??? Only joking.
