Indeed great photographs Paul I'm envious of the guy who (now) has the Cross.....it's amazing when one considers the 'path' these things take and if paying attention a collector could build and document a provenance of sort!!

A beautiful set but I'm still awaiting the 'eagle eyes'!!!

Is this an optical illusion?

That surely is!!! Amazing what the cam can do...


However, beyond the the rounded inner corners on this (later) frame and the 'illusion' of the moving dents there's another something I have not seen before

Not that would not be the first optical illusion I would fall for, but could somebody explain to me how that can happen with a camera? This is how it normally looks. How can the dents jump from the hills down to the valley just by means of the camera?

The Cross is fine and the 'dent row' as you coined it is fine...the little pocks are in their respective places AND show the proper depth and sharpness

I'm not chasing ghosts - I just want to know how that can happen with a camera! Honestly! I saw the other flaw already and that looks fine. So no problem there - just puzzled.

Right back to the Rounder = Juncker = recently could be S&L and now the bloody dents move!!


I fell for it (THE ILLUSION) as well and after a min. I realized the bigger I made the pic the more the 'dents' moved!!!


So much for pictures that aren't crystal clear huh?

This certainly shows the problems with identifying round cornered crosses in photos.

This is really amazing!

I got pictures of that cross already about 6 weeks ago and I clearly can see the dent row on those! And I tried what Dave suggested, i.e. magnifying. The dent row is not moving on my screen. Amazing!

And yes, this is a problem in general with pictures. The biggest downside is the lack of 3 dimensions. Therefore I'm always amazed how easy some people can spot the maker on some pictures, and without any doubt or room for discussion!

Diertich, it doesn't occure when viewing the (owner's) pictures....it seems only to create the illusion when the pics from Paul's site are enlarged (relicsofthereich)!


Try it and at a 'specific' enlargement the dents retreat!!

The Cross is perfect, wartime and mint. However, there's something still left that hasn't been noticed in the photos!

Here's my 2 cents

To me the front and back numbers look different, especially the "3". Also, and this may just be camara angle, but the inside of the top of the suspension loop looks flat. We getting close yet? Pretty cross.

This Rk certainly has got around! I first saw it on relicsofthereich, sold of course and I'm sure not for pennies. Then it turns up on Ebay with a 'Buy-it-Now' of $1600 (or something like that) with 'I bought it from an old man from Germany' story and now Weitze has it for POA.

Must be the most travelled RK in history!
