    Unusual IC 1st Class Screw Back Vaulted

    Thought you might be interested in viewing this screw back IC. I have not come across this type of fixing. Cross is also vaulted. Core is loose? Hand vaulted or factory?

    Anyone recognise the maker?

    Russell.

      A view of the vaulting. It's very symetrical.

        Can you post pictures of the back with the center plate screwed off?

          I am not keen on this. The screw device seems to be from a 1914 cross. The front does not look right with this low date.

            i have no particular thoughts on the cross itself,
            but agree that this is very reminiscent of a
            private purchase 1914 screwback assembly.

              Because the core is loose the date is low, here is a shot with the core pushed up. I don't think there is anything wrong with the cross, perhaps the fixing device was replaced?

                  Hello,

                  as far as I can see I would say the manufacturer of the cross was W&L.
                  It has the typical shape of the date.
                  The has been vaulted by hand. You can cognise it by the stick out inner frame corners.
                  The srew came from a 1914 issue. W&L also has used fixing srews as was customary in the 2WW.

                    and i would expect that the looseness (laxity?)
                    of the core may be a result of after-market vaulting.

                      This one isn't exactly the same, but it does have a WW1-type screwback setup.
