    Early S&L ?!

What do you all think about this?

    Here's the description:

"Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross 1939; neck badge, white metal frame silver plated, core of brass black lacquered, high relief swastica with precise edges, maker's mark on reverse has been removed (officially?), with original ring, but later suspension loop and original worn ribbon. Typical knight's cross of Steinhauer&Lück before 1945 for private purchase. Signs of age and wearing, fine old collector's item of high interest!"

Is that a brass core? With no 800 stamp?

As it says: brass core with silver plated frame.

Herman Historica had one of these in their last auction, billed as a '2nd pattern' RK by S&L.........

This is one of your "B" type crosses. It has a non-magnetic core, a silver plated frame, and is flawed. I would say this is a post war cross. It is interesting with the brass core.

I really like that designation- 2nd pattern. It sounds alot better than post war.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

It may still 'sell' for better than $4,500.00.........depending on what venue it's posted.

Far too much 'wiggle room' among gentlemen

$4500. Heck yes. It seems as though there have been a few post war crosses sold recently for that amount and a little more. I think that Dietrich's "B" and "A" type designations have gone a long way in saving people money who have taken a few minutes to read his article . It makes this piece a slam dunk.

Yes, but why are they selling for that amount and not $500. +?-...

                  Ever hopeful I guess!

I think that most of it is simply a reflection that "the good word" has not percolated through the entire collector community as of yet. It will take a little time. After a few years there will be few people lining up to buy these flawed "B" type crosses. Few people cherish items that are clearly post war and that will be reflected in the price.

According to the write-up in the first post, that's where the maker mark was "officially" removed...
