My 1st RK des EK....even if it is a '57

This came in the mail today, courtesy Gordon Williamson, By his words it's an "early '57's set of Oaks on an S&L frame, with a "second" pattern core". All in all, I find it a well constructed medal, though by no means as prestigious as it's older brother. however it's about 3 months away still before a '39 joins my family. So here you go, enjoy, and all comment and opinion appreciated

First a scan of the case and medal. When my battery is charged up, and I fiqure out where the "Macro" setting is hidden on my camera I will get you a photo....damn I forgot it's been raining for the most part of the last month.

The cross obverse note the ring is not dipping into the cross as later versions of the '57's did. And the rust on the 9 o'clock arm

800 hallmark and the ring. if you look close you can see remnants of "frosting" in the 800 and the valleys of the ribs. Thanks for pointing that out Peter

The Oak leaves and Swords, again hallmarked 800. I am told that they are the "short" arms which was fairly tyipical of the early '57 oaks.

Extremly delicate the thickness varies from .6 to 1mm and weighs at 4.8g

Reverse of the Oaks. Not sure how these are built, but it looks like the swords are soldered on!

Thanks Dietrich. By the way the case is not original to the piece, it was thrown in as a "gimme".

Yes, a lovely Cross and possibly before (they) were produced for the collector market

A great 'visual' of how the dipped ring was 'scived' or otherwise 'worked' out....

Thanks to Dietrich Can you show us the 'Kane Split'?
                              Regards,
                              Dave
