Snagged this in Germany. Now, if I can just find one like this with the cross still inside!

Don't do it!
Hi Rick...I was biting my tongue waiting for someone to out-bid you so I'm awfully glad you 'opened' this....Don't send a dime as the case looks like it is a post war (type) commonly used by S&L and the carton; although from the pics I can't be 100% sure looks like those that are floating around the internet...most recently from 'Snyder" albeit this one is probably 'tea stained'!!

well pohdnah.....
.... I hate to disagree with you. I had a good friend in Hamburg, who knows this seller, check it out and he said it's the real deal!
Fortunately for me, having watched so many other guys get raked over the coals, I don't bid on anything, no matter how well I know the subject, without getting a highly-trusted second opinion first. And just to be positive, nothing leaves the country until my friend double-checks it first. I have all my German buys shipped to my buddy, he re-packs and ships me a carton once a week. I end up saving quite a bit on shipping as well.

Hello all
Dosen’t your outer carton look very similar to this one Stogie Rick?
http://www.soldat.com/
I am no expert on these but the ones I have seen have used a different font for the writing, the old style gothic lettering.

Yes, it is, but......
....... some things cannot be faked. The wear and tear to the edges of the box, note the impression of the button in the end flap. There are other things as well. I'm confident, that it's OK. I'm also confident that if it arrives at my friend's shop, and it's not; it will go right back for a full-refund.
As an aside, Andreas Schulze-Ising bid on it as well. You know him as MedalNet.
So, rather than debate it now, I'll take the wait and see. if it's bogus, ya'll will be the third, etc. to know. Same goes if it's correct. Deal??

Gordon Williamson
I have certainly seen fakes of the outer "sleeve" type carton with this style of font but they were easily detected as the size was all wrong, the box being much too narrow when compared to the originals. The type Dez shows is I believe, one of these "narrow" boxes.
I have seen what I believe to be originals of this type of outer carton too however, in the correct dimensions and the lettering on protective shipping cartons is found in both Gothic and Latin script so the style of font isn't much of a clue.
The two piece cartons I have seen have all had normal staples reinforcing the corners, I have never seen the type of fitting on the "2" marked box before, but that doesn't mean it didn't exist.
Such card cartons would be way too easy to fake, so I'd tend to treat them all with extreme caution.

Hello all
I realise the pictures aren’t the best, but to me Rick’s outer carton and the Soldat piece look virtually identical. Surely it wouldn’t be that hard to age cardboard? Stick it in some water then out in the sun for a few days or the old tealeaves trick.
As John has already correctly pointed out, get your hands on some digital callipers and blacklight the cardboard.
Fair enough Rick, let the verdict be out until you have more information to bring to the table, good luck by the way, I surely hope it is original and if not you can get your money back.

Dez

Not to take away from the post but, we're (all) turning in to a 'Stump' thanks to this venue and it's a goood thing!!! A little knowledge DOES go a long way and the dealers better be aware of it! . I have been a little outspoken ( well intentioned! ) and chastised for it but, if I can save a guy a few hundred dollars by getting him thinking; so be it!
I hope to hear from Gordon about the CASE...the cardboard I think has been discussed...

Dave
