    Grand Cross Question

ok i have seen quite afew of the Grand Crosses being sold by Detlev, how does someone find all these Rare Grand Crosses and feel good about all of them? This is really getting out of hand, don't you guys think???? or am I missing something???

it looks like that buyers are feeling the same thing and now his new one is unsold, the last few went (sold) fast. I would think this would hurt a seller coming up with so many Rare items and all being found in a burned down house/building..

please what do you guys think?

    thanks greg

3k for a burned up/rusted GC!, I wouldn't buy it, it really has no significance unless this burned out building was Goering's storage unit where he kept his extras.

Greg, there certainly does appear to be a level of concern....

The fire damaged GC's and the sudden appearance of rusted Zimm RK's would make any collector community raise an eyebrow

I recall a 'story' and unfortunately can't cite the author or even where I read it but it did involve Detlev and his account of several GC's and RK's being found at once and in a group that was subsequently broken up and sold off....

Even a dealer will pass on information obtained upon purchase but may step away at a later time suggesting that 'this was what I was told'....
      Regards,
      Dave

I wouldn't even suggest it is a fake, however going back to my original post, 3k is still a bit much for a rusted/burned/corroded piece with no real significance other than that it is what it is an un-awarded GC.

              Good Morning,

It's fairly easy. I had 5 GC and 4 KC "20" and several other "20" marked lower crosses. Also 1 x oakleaves "21" and swords "21".
All these orders were more or less damaged by heavy fire. Some have seen the "found" when I have bought them. All these medals I have sold to several people as no one wanted to buy the "kilogramm" together. I have sold 5 GC's and now have bought one back which is for sale right now.
If 5 crosses were sold by me, than from the next dealers we already have 10 crosses. When the collectors sell them again it looks as if there are 15 crosses now and so on and so on....

              regards
              detlev

PS: a german buyer has cleaned and restored his cross, you wouldn't think how good it looks again

Thanks for the posting Detlev, you know it has been a concern to some and it just started bugging me seeing them showing up with the (burned and found in a building) explanation.

surely a grand cross is rare and i would think even a burned one would cost alot more than 3-4 thousand? so you must be selling these around your cost or am giving the collector community a once in a life time chance to obtain one for his/her collection. if so i commend you for it.

if you could get the permission of the collector you have mentioned above who "has cleaned and restored his cross, you wouldn't think how good it looks again" to post a couple of photos of his for all of us to see how well these clean up, that would be great!

                  Dear Gregory,

I understand that condition is also a major fact of the price. These GC'S are heavily damaged, but still an original GC. I believe that 3000 Euros/3600 US are a lot of money and you can comparatively buy something rare and mint for this price also (i.e. cased german cross)

But thanks for the compliment, usually we dealers get slaughters for our selling prices.

                  regards

PS: The german collector has just shown me the piece ,but not fotos. I think he even has neither a computer nor a digital camera. But I will ask him next tme I see him on a german show if he can bring it with him for me t fotograph
